Press Release:

Trainer Keith Powell was celebrating Friday night after he trained a 1-2 in The RCETS ON1 525 Final at Shelbourne Park.

Five lengths separated litter brothers Southfield King and Southfield Duke in the €4,000 final after a dramatic race. Syd Zafiro was the red-hot favourite for trainer Owen McKenna but after some traffic problems at the opening bend it was Southfield King who made the most if his inside draw wearing the red jacket.

This son of Dorotas Wildcat – Southfield Bea broke his maiden tag in style as he clocked 28.92 after a 2.11 split. It was only his third race so there is more to come from this big 80lbs black tracker along with his brother Duke. It was a great night for trainer Powell who enjoyed the victory with his daughter Alisha.

Aayamza Liberty won The Barking Buzz App ON2 525 Final for trainer Nalin Monerawela for his Ayamzaboys syndicate along with €1,750 in prize money. This well-bred daughter of Ballymac Best – Aayamza Royale recorded 29.21 meaning she went unbeaten in the competition having won her first ever race in 29.28. She came from behind on both occasions so we can look forward to a bright future for this little star weighing in at 57lbs.

There was another final on the card that was won by Honey Sky for trainer Michael Donnelly. This son of Droopys Sydney – Traceys Pet won the This Runs Deep A1 550 in a decent time of 29.67 as the 6/4 favourite, collecting a cheque for €2,200.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for Greyhound Racing Ireland, said: “To win a final is a brilliant achievement on any level but to train the first and second home for the same owner is amazing. Well done to trainer Keith Powell and his owner Mark Gilbert with Southfield King and Southfield Duke collecting €5,000 between them.”
