DOWLING, MAUNSELL AND BUCKLEY TEAMS TRIAL AT TOWCESTER

Ian Fortune

Liam Dowling, Bendan Maunsell and Pat Buckley continued their English Derby preparations at Towcester on Wednesday with all three trialling a number of their team.

DOWLING TRIALS FIVE AND WAS ‘HAPPY ENOUGH’

Liam Dowling trialled five of his eight-strong English Derby team and, while none went very fast, he did suggest he was “happy enough” with how they all went.

Said Dowling to the Racing Post, “I’m happy enough with how the dogs trialled, and times are not what we’re looking at as such. They needed to see Towcester and at least two of them ran off a bit at the second bend.”

Fastest of the five was Ballymac Gizmo as he went around in 29.27 (rated. 10 slow) off a 4.19 sectional. De Lahdedah was the most-high profile of Dowling’s charges in action and he posted 29.48 off 4.28. He seems certain to improve greatly for the spin.

The others to trial for Dowling were Ballymac Dapper (29.34 off 4.11), Ballymac Slick (beaten a length and three quarters behind Ballymac Dapper) and Ballymac Senan (29.50 off 4.07).

BRENDAN MAUNSELL TRIALS TWO

Brendan Maunsell also trialled his team in the same session, sending out In Good Time and Jim By Two to have a spin over the 500m course. Recent Tralee 525yd track record breaker In Good Time went around in 29.74 off a 4.17 sectional, while Jim By Two posted 29.85 off a 4.20. The latter was noted slightly stumbling at traps.

OTTO FASTEST OF BUCKLEY’S TEAM

Pat Buckley had a trial session to himself after racing, trialling eleven of his thirteen-strong team. Fastest of the lot was Coolavanny Otto as he posted 29.08 off a 4.13 sectional. Not far behind him was Ower Cracker, who posted 29.12 (4.16). Bens Teddy, the shortest priced Irish trained runner in the outright betting clocked 29.29 off 4.22.

The others to trial over 500m included Ballinabola Bill (29.65/4.16), Glengar Martha (29.60/4.29), Superfast Gorden (29.27/4.10), Singalong Dolly (29.20/4.17) and Ballinabola Jim (29.90/4.19).

Buckley also send out Hopes Hurricane, Road Exile and Antigua Hawk to trial over the sprint trip with Road Exile and Antigua Hawk both posting 15.78. Hopes Hurricane steered a middle to wide path as he clocked 15.91.
