Our People

The Our People series are a collection of short videos and stories compiled to highlight the work of just a few of the people involved in the Irish Greyhound Racing industry. These people rarely get the opportunity to have their stories shared, so why not take 5 minutes to check them out.

Our People, Their Generations

Our People. In 2018, we had their stories. In 2020, we saw their day.

Now we meet the Generations.

We're very excited to bring you the next chapter in the Our People series: Our People, The Generations.

The hundreds of years of tradition that forms our sport.

The generations of families brought together

by their love of the dogs.

We stand for all that is good about our sport

and we are its future.

Because

THIS RUNS DEEP

Our People, Their Day

A follow on to the popular Our People, Their Stories series, in early 2020 we launched Our People, Their Day.  This series showcases a day in the life of people from all walks of our industry, incuding a greyhound trainer, control steward and the staff of the GRI National Laboratory.

Here's a look at just one of the stories featured, be sure to check them out all on Our People, Their Day

Deirdre Barry

Meet Deirdre.

A young greyhound trainer, with no family experience in the sport, who has carved her own career and built her facilities and business from scratch.

We follow Deirdre through her day from breakfast time, through to exercising her racing greyhounds and young pups, to a race night in Shelbourne Park.

Our People, Their Stories

The Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT) was first established in 1997 by the Irish Greyhound Board, now Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) . Funded through owners prizemoney deductions, matched donations by (GRI) & private donations, the charity works to rehome greyhounds after retirement and promote them as domestic pets.

There are many dedicated staff, volunteers and greyhound owners behind the scenes of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust, many of whom have never had their story recognised.

Throughout the summer and autumn of 2018, GRI took a photographer and videographer on the road to capture just some of the stories of our people.

Here's a sneak peak at the series, be sure to check them all out on Our People, Their Stories
