KING FAVOURITE FOR CHAMPION

Ian Fortune

Carmac King extended his winning sequence to four for Owen McKenna and Timmy Carmody in the opening round of the Shelbourne Champion 550 on Saturday night and has now been promoted to clear favouritism or the competition with Boylesports.

The son of Droopys Sydney has been on a real crest of a wave of late, showing great all-round speed and he is now just 3-1 to win the valuable stake. Carrick Keano may have suffered an odds-on reversal in his opening round assignment but he is second in at 4-1, while the exciting Syd Zafiro, a kennel companion to Carmac King, is now just 5-1 after setting the pace on Saturday.

The son of Droopys Sydney and Susie Sapphire relished the step up to 550yds and he’s clearly hugely talented. If he continues to improve, he really could be anything.

Kirby Memorial third Scooby Pacemaker is next in at 6-1, while Swords Hero is the only other runner at single figure odds at 8-1.
